DivX certifies HD chip for HDTVs and set-top boxes

by Mike Allen on August 11, 2008

DivX announced today the HD DivX Certification of Broadcom’s BCM7405 system-on-a-chip (SoC) solution. The BCM7405 provides advanced IP functionality and improved video/audio performance for satellite, cable and IP provider set-top boxes. The BCM7405 will support the playback of DivX 1080p content as well as features used in DTV including recording, time-shifting and trick modes.

“DivX is a key player in high-quality digital content distribution and consumption, and we are pleased to continue collaborating with them to support our shared customers’ goals of supporting the widest selection of video and audio content formats,” said Aidan O’Rourke, Senior Director of Marketing, IPTV Set-Top Box Products for Broadcom.

DivX technology reduces the file sizes of digital video, and DivX Certification enables consumers to play DivX video content on devices like Blu-ray players, digital video recorders, portable media players, digital televisions, and mobile phones.
