TiVo HD box to replace Comcast digital adapter

by Jeffrey Nukom on May 31, 2009

In a company report released last week, TiVo said Comcast will offer the TiVo HD retail box “as an alternative to a digital adapter provided by Comcast,” although no further details were provided. TiVo also said a Comcast DVR with TiVo service was close to launching in Chicago.

This same report announced that this summer New England subscribers will be able to schedule program recordings remotely using a new feature called TiVo Online Scheduler. The subscribers must have a Comcast DVR with TiVo service and Comcast internet to take advantage of the feature.

In addition, Tom Rogers, President and CEO of TiVo said “Comcast has told us it plans to offer TiVo as the primary DVR option going forward in a yet-to-be announced tru2way market.”

TiVo also announced a distribution deal with Blockbuster to provide movies to customers via TiVo and to sell TiVo DVRs both online and in video rental stores.
