Discovery Channel joins Comcast On Demand Online testing

by Jeff Chabot on August 13, 2009

The Discovery Channel has been added to Comcast’s trial On Demand Online service. Participants in the online testing will be able to get Discovery Channel content beginning this week.

The trial service started last month as an additional service available to Comcast customers free-of-charge.

Programming from the Discovery Channel includes “Man vs. Wild,” “Swords,” “Storm Chasers,” and “Verminators.” Most content will be available online the day after air except for “Verminators” which will be available the week after airing.

The trial began with approximately 5,000 customers from across the U.S. last month, focusing on testing Comcast’s “authentication” technology.

Customers who log-in with their user name and password will be able to get the same content online for free that they receive at home.

Comcast now has 24 networks providing content for the online service. Other networks already involved in the trial include HBO, CBS, TNT, TBS, Starz, Cinemax, A&E, AMC, BBC America, DIY Network, Fine Living Network, Food Network, Hallmark Channel, HGTV, History, IFC, MGM Impact, Sundance, WE tv, E!, The Style Network, G4 and Fearnet.
