ABC pulls the plug on Cablevision, clips Oscars

abc_logo_bwAfter an ongoing dispute between Disney (ABC’s parent company) and cable TV provider Cablevision failed to be resolved, the network was pulled at midnight on Saturday, Dec. 6. The dispute wasn’t settled until Sunday night at 8:43 p.m, almost fifteen minutes after the Academy Awards had already started. Until then, 3.1 million Cablevision subscribers were unable to get ABC. Food Network and HGTV dropped from Cablevision

hgtv logoAt midnight on Dec. 31, both Food Network and HGTV (owned by Scripps Networks) were dropped from Cablevision’s lineups, a result of both companies failing to come to a carriage agreement. Scripps says its channels are among the most watched, and yet paid among the lowest rates in the industry. Full Story

Cablevision TV advertising to go interactive

Cablevision to add Tennis Channel HD

Cablevision faces Verizon petition for HD content

Verizon has petitioned the FCC to allow Cablevision and its Madison Square Garden network to provide Verizon with local sports programming in HD. According to the complaint, Cablevision has denied access to the high-definition versions of any of its regional sports programming. Full Story

Cablevision reaches 100 HD channels

Cablevision added nearly 30 High-Definition (HD) channels today, reaching their set goal of offering 100 HD channels free-of-charge to digital cable customers. The company added the HD channels across their market areas in Connecticut, New Jersey, Long Island and the Hudson Valley. Full Story

Starz/Encore titles added to Cablevision HD VOD

The titles which range from blockbusters to original programming and documentaries are available free-of-charge to customers who are subscribed to Starz On Demand/Encore On Demand in the New York metro area. Cablevision to reach 100 HD channels

Cablevision will reach 100 HD (High Definition) channels throughout their markets by June, according to sources. Bloomberg News reports the cable TV service provider will start by adding 30 new HD channels in New York City this week. Multichannel News reports the company will also be adding 9 HD channels throughout New York, Connecticut and New Jersey this week. Full Story

Cablevision adds 15 HD channels

Cablevision Systems Corporation has added 15 high-definition channels to its lineup. The cable television provider now offers 70 HD channels at no extra charge to iO TV subscribers. The new channels from HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Starz and Encore will be added over the next few days. Full Story

Cablevision adds Comedy Central HD

Cablevision announced the addition of Comedy Central HD today to their lineup. The company now offers 69 HD channels at no additional charge with their iO TV service. As well as the 69 high-definition channels, the company offers HD VOD titles at $4.95. That’s a dollar cheaper than most competitors. Full Story

Cablevision added MLB Network HD

Earlier this week Cablevision added both standard-definition and high-definition (HD) channels for the premiere of the MLB Network. Thursday, January 1st marked the launch of the network, which will cover regular season games as well as the World Baseball Classic games in March. Cablevision steps up HD offerings

Cablevision adds CNN HD lineup

cablevision logoCablevision Systems and CNN Worldwide announced the addition of CNN HD to Cablevision’s high-definition programming line-up. This makes it the 42nd high-definition channel available to Cablevision’s 800,000 io digital cable customers with HD televisions. The network, found on channel 725, is available at no additional charge to HDTV customers.

“We are pleased to add CNN HD to our high-definition line-up, which has nearly doubled in size over the last year,” said John Trierweiler, Cablevision’s senior vice president of product management. “More and better HD programming, without the extra fees our competitors charge customers to see HD, is a defining element of our iO TV digital cable service, and our robust fiber optic network allows Cablevision to offer this expanding array of high- definition programming to our more than 800,000 HD customers.”
Cablevision Systems Corporation serves more than 3 million households in the New York metropolitan area. In addition to its telecommunications and programming
businesses, Cablevision owns Madison Square Garden and its sports teams,
the New York Knicks, Rangers and Liberty. The company also operates New
York’s famed Radio City Music Hall, and owns and operates Clearview Cinemas.
