Patriots vs. Giants in 3D closes preseason

Thursday, Sept. 2 will mark the end of preseason NFL games as well as a broadcasting milestone. The New England Patriots vs. the New York Giants will be broadcast in 3D from New Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey. This will be the first time an NFL game is broadcast in 3D, and Verizon customers in local markets will be able to watch the broadcast on channel 834. Of course, a 3D TV and glasses will be required. U-verse on-screen account app launched

AT&T has launched a new app which allows you to control your account right from your TV screen. The app, called “U-verse Account Manager,” will allow you to add channels, view channel lineups, compare packages, and view account information. 3 more channels added to FiOS TV online

Verizon’s FiOS TV online service is adding three more channels from Time Warner Inc., including Adult Swim, Cartoon Network and truTV. Content from these channels will be available online within 24-hours after the shows premiere on television. The channels join Turner’s TNT and TBS which became available to FiOS TV subscribers in June. Full Story

Verizon app enables live TV on your iPad

You know you want to walk around the house watching live TV on your iPad. Sometime next year Verizon FiOS TV subscribers will be able to do just that, using an app for the iPad which will stream whatever content you have going into your receiver. Verizon CIO Shaygan Kheradpir gave a demonstration of the app this week from his home. The app will be free (for now) and launch at first for the iPad, but other platforms are in development. Verizon says the app will launch next year, but Kheradpir did not rule out a launch in 2010. Full Story

Verizon to broadcast first NFL game in 3D

Verizon has announced they will produce and broadcast the first NFL game in 3D for a limited audience who subscribe to FiOS TV. The pre-season game between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots (who met up in Superbowl XLII) will broadcast in 3D for FiOS customers in parts of New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. A new AT&T U-verse app lets Chicago Cubs fans choose from 7 different WGN-TV Chicago angles as your main picture, and up to four different cameras placed at home plate, third base, first base and center field at one time. HD channels added to FiOS TV lineup

Nat Geo WildVerizon is has added two additional HD channels to their FiOS TV lineup. Customers in all markets can now enjoy Investigation Discovery HD, and customers in Maryland and Virginia can tune into Nat Geo WILD HD. Later this week, Nat Geo WILD HD will be added to all FiOS TV markets. Full Story

Verizon premieres WealthTV in 3D

Verizon has added video-on-demand content from WealthTV in 3D throughout its FiOS service network. The channel, called “the premier luxury lifestyle and entertainment network,” has launched its first 3D content with an episode of “Wealth on Wheels Classic.” Full Story

AT&T fighting for MSG HD, MSG Plus HD

AT&T has re-filed it’s complaint against Madison Square Garden (MSG) and Cablevision over rights to high-definition (HD) feeds from the regional sports networks. AT&T contacted MSG about the feeds to MSG HD and MSG Plus HD after an FCC ruling said “denying access to terrestrial nets is presumptively unfair and deceptive, and treats HD nets as separate services from the standard-definion feed.” Full Story

RCN adds seven new HD networks

RCN Corporation has added seven new networks to its high-definition lineup today, including COMEDY CENTRAL HD, CMT HD, MTV HD, Nickelodeon HD, Spike HD, VH1 HD and BET HD. In addition, RCN added more HD content to its video-on-demand library which is available at no extra charge. Full Story

U-verse gets Tennis Channel HD

AT&T’s U-verse TV service now offers Tennis Channel in standard and high-definition. The network, which launches in time for Wimbledon, can be found on channels 660 (standard-definition) and 1660 (high-definition) for customers with the AT&T U450 service package. AT&T says they offer 3,500 hours of HD content throughout the year. Full Story

AT&T to carry FIFA World Cup in 3D

AT&T has become the next network to offer the FIFA World Cup in 3D, announcing a deal with sports network ESPN. The IPTV provider will provide 25 of the matches from South Africa in 3D on ESPN 3D, and close to 100 live events in 3D in the next year. Full Story

Verizon customers to get The Closer, Lopez Tonight online in HD

FiOS TV subscribers will be able to get Time Warner’s Turner networks programming on their PCs in June, and in the near future on their mobile devices. Shows such as “The Closer,” “Southland,” “Leverage,” Lopez Tonight” will be available 24 hours after they premiere on broadcast television — a time-delay common for prime-time content offered on demand. AT&T’s U-verse adds new HD channels nationwide
