Mafia II now shipping for PS3, Xbox and Windows

Published by 2K games, Mafia II is now available for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PCs. The third-person action/shooter game was announced in August 2008, and is a sequel to Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven. Mafia II was developed by 2K Czech, previously known as Illusion Softworks. Full Story

Blockbuster now renting video games by mail

Blockbuster is now renting out over 3,000 video game titles by mail for PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360 and Wii consoles. The move positions them to compete with video game rental company Gamefly, and gives them an advantage over competing rent-by-mail company Netflix (who doesn’t offer video games), and kiosk movie rental company Redbox (who offers video game rentals for $2 a night but in limited locations). EA Announces Medal of Honor Limited Edition For PS3, Xbox 360, and PC

EA announced that a “Limited Edition” of their upcoming Medal of Honor will be available for all major consoles with the game’s release this October. For $59.99, the same price as the regular edition, gamers will get early access to three weapons: two shotguns, the TOZ-194 and 870MC2, and the MP7 submachine gun. In a nice addition, PS3 users are getting an exclusive bonus, as that version includes a remastered version of the PS2 classic MOH: Frontline. Full Story

Or playing Crysis, one of the most graphically demanding PC games ever, on a MacBook — or your big screen HDTV. OnLive, a new game streaming service, promises all that and more. I’ve spent the last few days trying out the service, forming impressions on whether this really is as revolutionary as the company says it is.

Sony’s ‘Free Realms’ hits 12 million users

Sony Free RealmsSony’s family-friendly virtual world called “Free Realms” reached 12 million registered users, Sony announced this week. The online multi-player environment was launched in April ‘09 by Sony Online Entertainment, taking just over two weeks to reach 1 million registered users. Full Story

Medal of Honor Frontline remastered in HD

Medal of Honor FrontlineOriginally released in 2002, Electronic Arts’ Medal of Honor Frontline will be available in a special edition of Medal of Honor (2010) exclusive to the PS3. This will be the first time ‘Frontine’ will be available for Playstation 3, which released as the fourth installment of the Medal of Honor franchise. EA says the exclusive edition has been re-mastered in HD with improved graphics and all the “heart-wrenching battles” of the original. Full Story

Dead Space 2 Limited Edition to include ‘Extraction’

This week’s E3 convention brought a slew of gaming announcments, one being an upcoming exclusive Limited Edition of Dead Space 2 which includes Dead Space Extraction in HD with support for PlayStation Move. The prequel to the Dead Space saga, ‘Extraction,’ will be sold as part of Dead Space 2 or as a standalone edition for PS3. Full Story

Best Buy to take in-store video game trade-ins

Late this summer, gamers will be able to bring their previously owned games into Best Buy stores and trade them immediately for gift cards. Currently, Best Buy only takes in-store trade-ins on iPods, Apple and PC laptops, and mobile phones. They do, however, already take video game trade-ins by mail. Full Story

Red Faction: Armageddon Debuts

Just days after the one year anniversary of the release of the well-received Red Faction: Guerilla, THQ has announced its sequel, Red Faction: Armageddon. Taking place fifty years after the events of Guerilla, the game casts players in the role of Darius Mason, grandson of the previous game’s protagonist, who lives in an underground network of mines after the surface of Mars has been rendered unlivable. Fable 3 Coming to Games For Windows, 360 Version Gets Limited Edition

When the box art for Fable III leaked online last week, gamers quickly noticed the “Only on Xbox 360 & Windows” stamp that apparently revealed the PC version of the game before its official debut. Steam For Mac Brings A Gaming Treasure Trove To Apple Users

Last week, Valve launched the Mac version of Steam, their popular content distribution platform. Since its launch in 2003, Steam has allowed users to instantly purchase and download games in an easily organized and updated system. While Steam for Mac does not offer all the games the Windows version does, there are over seventy available now, with new titles being added weekly to the service. Any games developed by Valve will, from now, be released simultaneously on Mac and PC. Full Story

Call of Duty: Black Ops teaser trailer released

Treyarch has released a teaser trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops - the seventh game in the Call of Duty series. Missions are rumored to take place in locations such as Cuba, the Arctic, and Vietnam. The first-person shooter will allow multiplayer, single-player and co-op modes. Game developer Treyarch and publisher Activision will release Black Ops for Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC in time for the holidays on November 9, 2010.

Dead Rising 2 scheduled for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC

Dead Rising was one of the Xbox 360’s most original and exciting games when it was its released back in 2006. The game featured a Dawn of the Dead style story where photographer Frank West was forced to fight his way through an always-advancing zombie attack. Thankfully, he had plenty of weapons to help him out, ranging from baseball bats to cash registers and golf clubs. The game’s sequel, Dead Rising 2, is heavily anticipated, and news has come out that the game’s story mode will feature cooperative play. Full Story

Call of Duty Stimulus Package headed for PS3

Despite some criticism from hardcore gamers, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is still staying strong at the top of the multiplayer charts, and developer Infinity Ward is trying to keep it that way. A few weeks ago, the “Stimulus Package” DLC was released for the Xbox 360 version of the game. Now, on May 4th in the US and May 5th in Europe, that DLC is finally arriving for the PC and Playstation 3. Full Story
