Onkyo Blu-ray player to support Blockbuster On Demand

Onkyo’s newest Blu-ray Disc player will support streaming of movies and TV shows from Blockbuster On Demand. Best Blu-ray players in 2010

The Testing Group, based in Glendale, CA, rated the best Blu-ray Disc players of 2010 — separating them in three categories which included: Budget Buy, Family Friendly, and Feature Rich. The BD players were voted on audio/video quality, compatibility, user interface, and added features. Full Story

PlayStation 3 160GB console now shipping

The PlayStation 3 160GB model is now shipping for $299, the same price as the smaller 120GB model released last year around this time. The 160GB PS3 comes with a Cell Broadband Engine, NVIDIA graphics processor, built-in Wi-Fi, 2 USB ports and HDMI (+ Bravia Synch) and weighs just about 7 pounds.

PlayStation expands capacity to 320GB

Sony officially announced plans to release a higher capacity hard drive for the PlayStation 3 this fall. In North America, the PS3 will be offered with 320GB’s of storage space (an increase of 33% from current capacity), with everything else inside and outside the console remaining the same. The 320Gb model will be bundled with one PlayStation Move controller, a PlayStation Eye camera, a copy of Sports Champions, and a Blu-ray game demo disc for $399.99. Release date for the  320GB bundle is September 19, 2010. Full Story

Amazon drops price on Panasonic B500 Portable Blu-ray Player

Plextor touts USB-powered Blu-ray drive

LG Electronics to launch 3D products

LG is launching a suite of 3D TVs based on their top-of-the-line “Infinia” LED displays. The Infinia LX9500 and LX6500 series HDTVs models utilize active-shutter 3D technology, and feature NetCast allowing access to web content from Netflix, CinemaNow, VUDU, YouTube, and MLB.TV. Full Story

New Sony ES 3D hardware to allow iPhone control

Sony’s new “Elevated Standard” (ES) line of AV receivers and Blu-ray player represent the company’s top-of-the-line 3D-ready video equipment – but will only be available to custom installers and select AV retailers. On a more user-friendly note, iPhone & iTouch users will be able to control the new models using a free mobile app – featuring zone control, a full GUI menu, and Sony’s Quick Click remote function.

Blockbuster On Demand added to Philips Blu-ray players

The newest Blu-ray Disc players from Philips will feature Blockbuster On Demand support, allowing streaming movie purchases without having to go to a rental store. The Philips 5320 and 7320 Blu-ray player models have supposedly added support for the service. However, good luck finding one of the BD models to purchase. Vizio HDTVs to support Hulu Plus

You’ve seen Hulu, but what is Hulu Plus? Hulu Plus is the first ad-supported subscription service to offer current seasons of programming from ABC, FOX and NBC all in high-def via the internet. The service costs $9.99 a month and includes content from over 100 providers. Vizio and Hulu have now partnered to add Hulu Plus to Vizio’s Internet Apps which run on Vizio HDTVs and Blu-ray players. Vizio boasts dual-band wireless Blu-ray player

Vizio has announced three new wireless Blu-ray Disc players, one of which boasts dual-band built-in wireless. Both the VBR210 and VBR220 support 802.11n single-band 2.4 GHz wireless, while the the VBR231 (for an extra $10 bucks) supports both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. If used with Vizio’s new dual-band HD router, the VBR231 could access different content services simultaneously. Full Story

Sony discounts new 3D Blu-ray hardware

Sony uploads 3D firmware updates, launches new 3D Blu-ray systems

Today, the company formally announced the free updates for select Blu-ray Disc players which include the Sony BDP-S470 and BDP-S570 models. Toshiba announces Blu-ray players that stream Netflix & Blockbuster

Former Blu-ray rival Toshiba has officially announced availability of two reasonably priced Blu-ray Disc players. The BDX2500 ($179.99) and BDX2700 ($249.99) include Wi-Fi, 7.1 channel audio, 24 frames-per-second, and compatibility with Netflix and Blockbuster On Demand. Full Story

Blockbuster sells Blu-ray player for $99

Blockbuster is selling a Sylvania Blu-ray Disc player for $99.99 throughout its nationwide chain of stores. However, as reported by Home Media Magazine the player is the Sylvania NB501SL9, an older model BD player with 1.1 profile and no internet connectivity. The originally priced $249 BD player is also available at Amazon and Walmart for about the same price. Full Story
