HD/Video-On-Demand Investment Shows Growth

The future for video-on-demand looks particularly bright this week.  A recent study published by Infonetics Research has shown that spending for video-on-demand and content servers as well as other VOD infrastructure components and devices by cable and IPTV service providers to be steady at $625 million in 4Q09, though overall video infrastructure spending was down for 2009 due to the recession in North America and Europe.  Full Story

Verizon expands FiOS TV DVR features

Verizon has added a couple cool features for their customers with FiOS TV DVRs which had previously only been available to those with FiOS TV Home Media DVRs. The cooler of the features is the ability to program your DVR from any internet-enabled cell phone. Full Story

TiVo adds podcast channels and video publishing

TiVo has added the ability of video podcasts and RSS feeds to publish directly to a TiVo DVR, including the TiVo Series3, TiVo HD and TiVo HD XL models. The new podcast channels number in the hundreds, and mainstream providers include CBS, FOX, Oprah, and G4. Full Story

TiVo HD box to replace Comcast digital adapter

In a company report released last week, TiVo said Comcast will offer the TiVo HD retail box “as an alternative to a digital adapter provided by Comcast,” although no further details were provided. TiVo also said a Comcast DVR with TiVo service was close to launching in Chicago. Full Story

Dish HD-DVR with Slingbox

Dish Network will reveal a new HD-DVR unit at CES today that integrates Slingbox technology, allowing anyone to access their television programming via an internet-enabled device. The one terabyte ViP 922 will record up to 1,000 hours of content. And, if that isn’t enough you can hook up external hard drives. Full Story

DVRs not recording complete games?

If you are like me you have been having a hell of a time recording full games on your DVR. I’ve tried to record the last two MLB Playoff games in their completion, only to find the recordings end in the last inning with the game tied up. That’s what happened last night with the Red Sox vs. Devil Rays playoff, but I figured out the solution. Full Story

DirecTV, TiVo plan on new DVR

According to a Reuters report, TiVo and DirecTV are teaming up to develop a new DVR. Shares of Tivo went up 32 cents a share this morning following the announcement. The two companies will extend their current partnership and have included in the agreement the development of a new high-definition DirecTV DVR with TiVo service. Full Story
