Pre-orders were halted after 600,000 were sold, and Jobs has got to be smiling while kicking himself at the same time. Could Apple have sold 1 million pre-orders of the iPhone 4 if they hadn’t stopped?

No matter, according to Jobs the 4th-gen iPhone has become Apple’s “most successful product launch in Apple’s history.” He adds, “Even so, we apologize to those customers who were turned away because we did not have enough supply.”

The new iPhone features an HD quality camera — capturing 720p video resolution at 30 frames-per-second. The phone also houses a 5 megapixel still camera, an Apple A4 processor, a 3-axis gyro and up to 40 percent longer talk time.

The operating system is loaded with iOS 4, featuring multitasking, folders, enhanced Mail, deeper Enterprise support and Apple’s new iAd mobile advertising platform. iMovie can be used on the iPhone ($4.99) to edit video, add transitions, music and photos.

The iPhone sells in the US for an MSRP of $199 (16GB) or $299 (32GB) with AT&T 2-year contract. Best Buy, Radio Shack and Wal-Mart also now carry the iPhone.

Here’s a video from an Apple customer who says they got their iPhone 4 two days early. UPS mistake? Delivered to early to be activated anyway? Well apparently Apple has already activated their servers and the new iPhone is ready to rock in anticipation of the actual release on June 24. We can’t wait to try out the new HD video at 720p 30fps and FaceTime video chat camera.

Pre-order iPhone 4 sales have been impressive (600,000 to date), with expectations to sell over 10 million by the end of 2010. While the 3GS model has sold about 50 million units since release, apparently Apple has ordered enough parts from Asia Optical to ship approximately 9 million units per quarter – which could easily outsell the 3GS.

The iPhone 4 will also be readily available at more retailers besides AT&T and Apple. Wal-Mart said they will carry the new iPhone (and is most noted for selling the iPhone 3GS 16GB for $97) as well as Radio Shack and Best Buy, making purchasing the iPhone much more convenient (almost as convenient as fast food).

But what about phone service plans? What if you don’t have AT&T? Rumors are that AT&T’s exclusive rights to the mobile contracts may not continue for long. On the other side of the pond, there are now five service carriers in the UK that support iPhone.

Microsoft released a 64GB version of their Zune HD, dropping the prices of the 16GB and 32GB models in the process. But the announcement came without much fanfare from the tech community. Is the Zune HD already dead in the water? And if so, does it deserve it?

Personally, I think the Zune HD is an underrated device. It’s 3.3-inch, multi-touch OLED display is more vibrant than that of the iPod Touch, offering a better video viewing experience of videos of up to 720p resolution. Its Smart DJ feature rivals the Genius option within iTunes. And for fifteen dollars a month, the Zune Pass offers an unlimited music subscription — you just don’t own the files.

I seriously doubt the Zune brand will ever have the popularity of the iPod family. Thanks to the App Store, there’s a wider variety of things to do with the iPod Touch. But Microsoft has crafted a well-designed device with a user interface that’s both stylish and functional. If you’re looking for a device mainly to play music and video, the Zune HD may fit your needs well.

Microsoft is currently selling the Zune HD 64GB model in their online Zune Store for $349 US.

The 3G iPad models will be available “Late April” and will run for $629 (16GB), $729 (32GB) and $829 (64GB). All the iPad models are Wi-Fi enabled, enabling you to surf, email, and watch movies whenever a wireless network is available. But for those of you always on the road the backup 3G service is essential.

Service plans for the 3G service offered from AT&T will run $14.99 a month for 250MB data download, or unlimited usage for $29.99 a month. The plans are no-contract by the way, so you don’t have to worry about signing your life away.

Setting up the 3G service is easy enough. On your iPad, go to “Settings” and choose “Cellular Data.” Then enter your user info, select a plan and payment method.

Loaded eBook reader? Handheld HDTV? Apple’s iPad will release on Saturday, April 3 and already the apps are rolling in including the now confirmed Netflix iPad application. Some apps are already available on iTunes, but a few screenshots of the Netflix app leaked yesterday were confirmed via press release today. The Netflix application will stream unlimited video, a percentage of it in HD, with subscription plans starting at $8.99 per month.

This kind of makes you wonder though what Apple is thinking given they also rent (and sell) movies and TV shows through iTunes — and have been for some time now. Why would they allow Netflix subscribers to get it all for free? Regardless, Apple does maintain an edge on new movie titles as Netflix streaming still has to abide by the one-month rule, while Apple gets them on iTunes the same day as DVD.

Other movie viewing apps are apparently in the works for the iPad. The New York Times mentioned development of an iPad app in an article earlier this week. As well, CBS and ABC are also planning applications to allow TV content to be shown free of charge on the iPad, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The iPad has a 9.7-inch (diagnol) LED multi-touch display, which rotates content according to how you hold it. Since the iPad’s resolution is 1024×768 (132 ppi), HD content from Netflix and other apps might have to be scaled a bit to fit into the display’s native resolution.

Early reviews of Apple’s iPad are getting big scores from early reviewers. The gearheads at USA Today and the Wall Street Journal gave the iPad 4 out of 5 stars. And, the New York Times gave it 3.5 stars.

Will the fluctuating economy hurt iPad sales? Apparently not. One source says Apple will sell 200,000 iPads in its opening weekend alone.

The iPad will be available in 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB flash drive models. Its processor is a 1GHz Apple A4 custom low-power system-on-a-chip.

UPDATE: ABC has confirmed an application for iPad.

The Microsoft online store, as well as Best Buy, have the media players priced at $199 and $269 respectively. Amazon and Walmart have dropped the 32GB model by $40, offering it at $249 (Reg. $289). The 16GB model is currently $188 (Reg. $219).

The Zune HD is an iPod competitor which offers wireless synching to your PC. The player (much smaller than an iPhone and earlier Zune models) boasts a brilliant 3.3-inch OLED touchscreen display. Video resolution is 480 x 272 resolution at 16:9. Other notable features include built-in HD Radio and export to HDTV at 720p via external dock (sold separately.)

Will the price reductions stick? More than likely considering if there was demand the prices wouldn’t have dropped in the first place.

Although the video was a leak apparently from Buy.com, it confirmed the portable device will be directly competing with Apple’s iPhone and Sony’s PSP.

The promotional video (see below) shows a clip of a 3d game, which reviewers thought possibly could be “Burnout” or “Forza 3 Motorsport.” In today’s announcement, Microsoft confirmed a few games for the Zune HD — “Project Gotham Racing: Ferrari Edition,” “Vans Sk8: Pool Service” and “Audiosurf Tilt — will be available to download later this year.

What else does it do?

The Zune HD acts as a jukebox for your HDTV, playing HD movies at 720p via an optional AV Dock. The small 3.3-inch OLED display will also display movies at 480×272.

Zune HD can also pick-up HD radio broadcasts (which is a free service.) However, if connected to Wi-Fi, the user can immediately tag, purchase and download a song. Songs can also be downloaded later via PC.

Artist views will give you song and artist information for your MP3s. The Smart DJ feature will allow you to create endless playlists, and will provide song recommendations.

A built-in browser allows you to check your email, read news and view traffic reports. Facebook and Twitter integration are expected soon. You’ll also be able to sync with your PC wirelessly.

“Zune Originals” (available at the Zune store) allows you to customize your Zune with colors, patterns and inscriptions.

The 16GB model Zune HD retails for $219, while the 32GB model lists for $289. The optional AV Dock which you need to connect to your HDTV retails for $89.

Early reviews of the Zune HD were positive, given its interface improvements, EQ functions, mobile web browser (based on Internet Explorer), and social networking capabilities.

The Zune HD also has a built-in HD radio tuner, wireless capabilities, and will hold up to 10 hours of high-definition video (32GB model). (That also equates to approximately 8,000 audio files.)

How is it HD? Although the OLED 3.3 inch screen is only 480×272 (I guess you could call it HD at that size), the media player supports 720p output to your HDTV through an optional docking station. The Zune HD AV Dock will also charge the player while docked.

Power requirements were improved in this new model. The Zune HD uses a NVIDIA Tegra chip ultralow-power HD processor. The multiprocessor can apparently split tasks, separating processing needs for video and audio playback, graphics and HTML/Java rendering.

We also got prices on the Zune HD. The 16GB model will retail for $219, and the 32GB model will list for $289. The AV Dock will retail for $89.

The review describes several improvements including a better playback interface, the return of EQ and a mobile browser apparently based on IE. Other features include HD radio integration, social networking capabilities and marketplace.

The DMP-BD15 is built with an 8.9-inch WSVGA LCD display and features Viera Cast functionality for connecting to internet sites. This will allow you to view YouTube, Google Picasa, Bloomberg and a weather channel free-of-charge on your HDTV.

Using the same technology as Panasonic players like the DMP-BD80, the DMP-B15 ensures high pixel quality using PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus technology. This technology processes each pixel of the Blu-ray Disc video signal, reproducing color data with what Panasonic says is twice the accuracy of conventional systems.

Late in June, the B15 will also be compatible with Amazon streaming movie downloads (a library of 40,000 titles). The player also features BD-Live and a rechargeable battery rated at 2.5 hours run time.

You can connect the Blu-ray player to an HDTV via HDMI, or use as a standalone player. Audio can be connected to an HD-Audio compatible AV receiver. An optional headrest mounting bracket can be used in your car. And, like many portable players the DMP-BD15 includes an SD memory card slot for viewing photos and videos.

The Panasonic DMP-BD15 Blu-ray Player retails for $799 and is available at most electronics retailers including Amazon.com.

The Zune portable media player will also extend to the Xbox Live video marketplace, a community of 17 million subscribers.

Zune HD comes with a built-in HD Radio receiver so users can listen to
higher-quality sound than traditional radio on the go. Users also will
have access to the additional song and artist data broadcast by HD
Radio stations as well as additional channels from their favorite
stations multicasting in HD. If you don’t like the song playing on
your station’s HD channel, switch to its HD2 or HD3 channels for
additional programming.

The bright OLED touch screen interface allows users to flip through
music, movies and other content with ease, and the 16:9 widescreen
format display (480×272 resolution) offers a premium viewing
experience on the go.

The HD-compatible output lets Zune HD customers playback supported HD
video files from the device through a premium high-definition
multimedia interface (HDMI) audiovisual docking station (sold
separately) direct to an HD TV in 720p.*

Zune HD will include a full-screen Internet browser optimized for
multitouch functionality.

Zune HD is Wi-Fi enabled, allowing for instant streaming to the device
from the more than 5 million-track Zune music store.

Zune/Xbox Live integration will be demonstrated next week at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).
