Starz’s original TV series Spartacus: Blood and Sand will premiere tonight in HD (1080i) at 10pm ET/PT. The season will run 13 episodes and according to sources has already renewed for a second season, even before broadcasting its premiere episode. Full Story
A new miniseries coming to HBO from the producers of “Band of Brothers.”
Executive producers Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman, who brought the Band of Brothers miniseries, will be premiering The Pacific miniseries March 14 on HBO. Along with HBO, Comcast is giving its subscribers exclusive On Demand content including a scene from The Pacific, interviews with the producers, and sneak peaks into the making of the series. A hi-def program to look out for is Spartacus: Blood and Sand, a new series premiering on Starz Jan. 22, 2010. This classic tale of a gladiator turned legend will mix sex and drama with plenty of battle scenes in a graphic novel style made popular by Frank Miller’s 300. Full Story
Epix channel, available through Verizon’s FiOS TV service, will run an action/adventure movie marathon this Thanksgiving, starting with the “The Indy 500: 500 Minutes of Indiana Jones,” and ending on Sunday with the world television premiere of “Cloverfield.” Full Story
TNT ran The Predator in HD the other night and I gotta tell ya I wasn’t impressed. While this is probably not TNT’s fault, nor the fault of my service provider, the movie was realistically about half way to high-definition.
I haven’t seen the Blu-ray version which was released back in April 2008 to compare, so this review is strictly of the HD broadcast. First off, the format looked strange. It looked as if it was stretched horizontally, although at times I was thrown off because the broadcast looked vertically challenged. Full Story
