PBS gets full-time Nielsen TV ratings

PBS_logo_iconThe New York Times reported that PBS, as of today, will start receiving full-time television ratings from the Nielsen Company (they previously received monthly reports). The Times says PBS (Public Broadcasting System) has made the move in order to offer shorter sponsorship periods and provide more viewer data to those sponsors. Full Story

National Geographic Channel to present ‘The Lost JFK Tapes’

‘Dan Rather Reports’ uncovers Iranian money laundering

Planet Green slates Sept. documentary block in HD

Planet Green has clued us in to their upcoming documentary segment “Reel Impact.” The weekly 2-hour programming block is set to launch on Sept. 12 and simultaneously broadcast in both standard and high-definition (HD). “Reel Impact” will air on Saturdays from 8 p.m. – 10 p.m. Eastern Time. Time Warner to add Smithsonian HD channel

Time Warner Cable and Smithsonian Networks have reached a distribution agreement which will allow the cable TV provider to broadcast the Smithsonian Channel in HD. Smithsonian Channel will also make its content available through Time Warner’s Road Runner internet service and On Demand in high definition. Full Story

Comcast launches PBS HD On Demand

DISH, FiOS to air Obama concert free on HBO

Both DirecTV and FiOS have announced they will air the pre-inaugural special “We Are One” on Sunday, Jan. 18. The concert will be held at Lincoln Memorial park in Washington, D.C., with HBO covering the event. And here’s the good part. Both DISH and Verizon’s FiOS will bring you free viewing of the event on HBO. Full Story

DirecTV launches PBS HD in 14 markets

Across the U.S., DirecTV has launched local PBS channels in HD (High-Definition) in 14 different markets. The markets range from New York to Los Angeles, covering many major metropolitan areas. The satcaster says it will continue to launch the public channel in more markets over the next several months. Full Story

DirecTV Election Mix Channel starts at 7pm ET

will offer an Election Mix Channel tonight which will split coverage of the four major broadcast networks and other leading news channels. Along with NBC, CBS, ABC and FOX, the Election Mix Channel will bring coverage of a total of eight channels. CNN, Fox News Channel, MSNBC will be consistent feeds on the split. One channel will alternate between BBC America and Comedy Central who is providing live coverage. Full Story

NASA unveils HD footage

Today NASA will unveil more than 100 hours of historical film restored to high-definition. The footage, from the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo missions will be presented to NASA Administrator Mike Griffin at the U.S. Capitol, and made available to researchers and the general public. Full Story

NY weekly arts program to air in HD

HGTV, Food Network expand HD broadcasts
