This Labor Day weekend DirecTV will broadcast select US Open tennis matches in 3D on n3D (channel 103) powered by Panasonic. The men’s and women’s third and fourth rounds will air daily in the afternoon from Sept. 4 through Sept. 6, and be available to customers who have a 3D TV system and have received the 3D software upgrade. Dish Network has launched its DishOnline.com website in beta mode. When it officially launches, Dish will join other television providers in offering programmed content streaming over the internet, a service that allows subscribers to watch TV in more places than in front of their TV sets. Not a DirecTV subscriber? No matter. This season you’ll be able to purchase the NFL Sunday Ticket purely for online viewing. But, according to USA Today, the service is geared towards would-be DirecTV customers who cannot get satellite service. The article goes on to say that potential customers will have to prove they are unable to get DirecTV in order to purchase the $350 NFL Sunday Ticket online package (for example if they don’t have a clear south-facing view to place the satellite.) An official press release from Dish Network announces the satco has added high-definition channel AMC HD, the network which carries the popular award-winning show Mad Men.
AMC originals also include Rubicon, The Walking Dead,” and Emmy nominated “Breaking Bad.” Movies showing this month include Analyze This, Something to Talk About, Gangs of New York, and Three Stooges features.
AMC HD is located on DISH Network Ch. 130 and is available free to customers who subscribe to America’s Top 200 and above, as well as DishLATINO DOS with HD and higher. ”
“DISH Network continues to lead the way in offering the best collection of HD channels in the nation, and we are excited to now bring our customers the award-winning drama Mad Men in high definition on AMC HD,” said Dave Shull, senior vice president of Programming for DISH Network.
DirecTV recently launched Fox Soccer Channel HD and promises over 320 exclusive soccer matches this season — including 28 European matches a week starting this month. DirecTV also launched GolTV HD on Aug. 1, and added Fox Soccer Plus matches in high-definition. Full Story
Dish Network has launched two new channels this week. The first is The 3 from Epix (also referred to as Epix 3) which offers “chop sockey” films from the ‘70s, teen comedies from the ‘80s, and late night “Shock Theater” style movies, as well as genre favs like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Rocky, Top Gun and The Terminator. Unfortunately the third channel from Epix is only offered in standard-definition. Full Story
Dish Network has launched high-definition (HD) channels in 14 additional local markets, bringing their total local hi-def coverage to 170 markets covering 96-percent of U.S. households. Full Story
Dish Network has launched a free app for Apple’s iPad that will allow remote scheduling of most Dish SD and HD DVR receivers — including the ViP 922 with built-in Sling technology. The application, called DISH Remote Access, is similar to the iPhone and iPod touch apps built for recording Dish programming. Full Story
If you hesitated paying $50 last year for the season subscription to NFL’s Red Zone, you’ll be pleased to know this year the channel will be included with NFL SUNDAY TICKET. In addition, DirecTV has promised every game in HD, the Game Mix Channel, and Short Cuts to the season pass. Full Story
TV legal drama Damages will be moving exclusively to DirecTV. The Sony Pictures/FX production will air 20 new episodes during 2011 and 2012 on DirecTV’s 101 network. DirecTV also gained distribution rights for seasons 1 through 3. Damages stars Glenn Close and Rose Byrne, with episodes also including William Hurt, Lily Tomlin, Martin Short and Ted Danson. Damages broadcasts in 1080i HD and Dolby Digital 5.1.
We thought we would update you with DirecTV’s latest additions to their HD channel lineup. For California residents, there are a couple regional additions which include CSN Bay Area HD and CSN California HD (Comcast SportsNet). DirecTV and Dish Network customers are anticipating the fourth season of Mad Men which airs July 25 on AMC HD. But subscribers to the satellite services will be stuck with the standard-def versions because the providers have not been able to add the high-definition version of the show. Other AMC original shows broadcast in HD include Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Rubicon and The Prisoner. Full Story
Over the weekend Dish Network successfully launched EchoStar XV, the company’s second satellite launch of the year which will allow Dish to provide more HD channels to customers. The company still says it offers over 200 high-def channels (a disputed claim) which would be more HD channels than any other provider including DirecTV. Full Story
Dish Network is still offering Alice in Wonderland, Green Zone, Hot Tub Time Machine and She’s Out of My League for .99 cents from July 1 through July 7 on their DISH Cinema pay-per-view service. The movies are available in both standard and high-definition at 1080p resolution and can be purchased on channel 501 or through the DISH On Demand menu on your DVR. Full Story
DirecTV has completed their promised launch of three dedicated 3D television channels which includes n3D, a linear channel powered by Panasonic featuring the NASCAR Coke Zero 400 race in 3D, DIRECTV Cinema which is offering IMAX titles Deep Sea 3D and Under the Sea 3D, and the previously launched EPSN 3D now covering the FIFA World Cup.
