New Apple TV features

Apple has released a new, smaller Apple TV box geared toward streaming movies and TV shows. The resolution tops out at 720p (unfortunately) but highlights include Netflix streaming, 802.11n Wi-Fi, H.264 and MPEG-4 video support, and a footprint that is 80-percent smaller than the last Apple TV box. Apple TV may support Netflix: UPDATED

Apple’s music and media conference today may reveal Apple TV support of Netflix, which would allow streaming of thousands of titles from the Netflix library under one subscription rate. The news comes via multiple sources including Bloomberg who say the media event may reveal a higher-definition iPod Touch and improved iTunes service. Full Story

Verizon app enables live TV on your iPad

You know you want to walk around the house watching live TV on your iPad. Sometime next year Verizon FiOS TV subscribers will be able to do just that, using an app for the iPad which will stream whatever content you have going into your receiver. Verizon CIO Shaygan Kheradpir gave a demonstration of the app this week from his home. The app will be free (for now) and launch at first for the iPad, but other platforms are in development. Verizon says the app will launch next year, but Kheradpir did not rule out a launch in 2010. Full Story

Dish launches free iPad DVR app

Dish Network has launched a free app for Apple’s iPad that will allow remote scheduling of most Dish SD and HD DVR receivers — including the ViP 922 with built-in Sling technology. The application, called DISH Remote Access, is similar to the iPhone and iPod touch apps built for recording Dish programming. Full Story

The phone can now be purchased in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. iPhone 4 sells 1.7 million while Jobs apologizes

Pre-orders were halted after 600,000 were sold, and Jobs has got to be smiling while kicking himself at the same time. Could Apple have sold 1 million pre-orders of the iPhone 4 if they hadn’t stopped? Full Story

Apple customer gets iPhone 4 early

Here’s a video from an Apple customer who says they got their iPhone 4 two days early. UPS mistake? Delivered to early to be activated anyway? Well apparently Apple has already activated their servers and the new iPhone is ready to rock in anticipation of the actual release on June 24. Mac Mini lives on, packs more power

The mini packs twice the graphics performance, HDMI support, and better energy efficiency with an integrated power supply. Overall system volume is reduced by 20-percent, and the unibody aluminum construction just 1.4 inches thin. Full Story

iPhone 4 highlights include HD video

Apple sells 2-million iPads, more worldwide shipping later this year

Apple says they have sold two million iPads in less than 60 days. The non-3G models of the iPad were launched in the U.S. on April 3 with either 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB hard drives. On April 30, Apple released the 3G-enabled models which are priced about $130 more than the non-3G versions. Full Story

Google TV announces open platform for Web/TV integration

The search engine company forms alliances with DISH Network, Best Buy, Adobe, Logitech and Sony to improve television usability.

Is it easier to find TV content on the web? That’s what Google is suggesting with their announcement of Google TV — their new open platform product that will integrate web usability with your television. If the big picture is that your PC will take the place of your remote control, then this is something to look forward to. Full Story

Best Buy to take on iTunes and Amazon VOD

Big box retailer Best Buy doesn’t plan on watching Apple and Amazon dominate the online movie sales business, or sit back waiting for Walmart’s Vudu service to take off. The company will begin selling movies via internet this month through CinemaNow, an online distribution service acquired by Sonic Solutions in 2008.

Apple to release iPad in 9 more countries

On May 28, Apple’s iPad will release in nine more countries which include Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. Pre-orders for all iPads in those countries begin today, May 10, with non-3G and 3G models available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB sizes. Full Story
