CBS and Comcast partner until 2020

CBS and Comcast have signed a ten-year television distribution agreement that will last until 2020, the companies announced today. The agreement includes Showtime Networks, Comcast’s launch of the Smithsonian Channel (also a CBS network), and expanded distribution of CBS College Sports programming. Full Story

Comcast adding 58 HD channels in Fresno & Central CA areas

Comcast will be adding 58 HD channels later this week in parts of Central California including Fresno, Los Banos, Merced, Tulare and Visalia (see full list of areas below). The additional channels (totalling 75 if you count standard-def channels ) will be added as part of Comcast’s XFINITY TV upgrade. New HD channels soon to be available include BET HD, MGM HD, MSNBC HD, Nickelodeon HD, Disney XD HD and E! HD. Full Story

Other carriers get NASCAR 3D event

It didn’t take long for other carriers to get in on the NASCAR 3D action. Two days after NASCAR announced DIRECTV would carry the Coke Zero 400 race on July 3, Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Bright House have been added to the list of carriers. The coverage will be presented in TNT’s Wide Open widescreen letterbox format free of commercial breaks. The broadcast will feature two custom 3D feeds – one from various 3D cameras set up along the track and the other capturing pit crew action. Full Story

Comcast launching 61 new HD channels in Sacramento

As part of their XFINITY TV digital upgrades in California, Comcast says they will launch 61 new HD channels (81 channels total) starting today with the first phase of the additions. The second phase will take place in August. Twenty communities in the Capital Region will also have access to 4,000 On Demand HD choices. Full Story

3D hype week, FIFA, and more

This past week was full of hype about emerging 3D technology as ESPN launched its ESPN 3D network last Friday with the opening of the 2010 FIFA World Cup match between South Africa and Mexico. But, not everyone will be able to view the 25 planned matches in 3D. According to CEA less than 1-million households are actually capable of viewing the three-dimensional broadcasts. Not only do you need a 3D TV but you also need a service provider who will be broadcasting the matches – DirecTV and Comcast announced carriage early on, while AT&T announced they would carry ESPN 3D just a few days before the launch on Friday. Comcast adds Telefutura HD and Univision HD in Washington DC

Comcast has added Telefutura HD and Univision HD to their high-definition channel lineup in Washington D.C. markets. The additions arrive in anticipation of the upcoming FIFA World Cup matches from South Africa. Comcast will broadcast all 64 matches of the tournament (25 in 3D) in spanish language from June 11 through July 11, 2010. Full Story

Comcast to add over 70 HD channels in Denver

Comcast will add over 70 new HD channels to its Denver markets under the brand “Xfinity,” that according to The Denver Post. Some Comcast subscribers in metropolitan Denver, Colorado Springs and Loveland areas have already started getting the high-def upgrades today. According to Comcast representative Cindy Parsons, most of metro Denver should have the channels by the end of this summer. Full Story

Comcast announces FIFA 3D coverage

After announcing a deal with ESPN 3D last month to broadcast the 2010 FIFA World Cup in high-definition and 3D, Comcast has released details of its coverage of the event which takes place in South Africa starting June 11. The cable TV provider says they will cover all 64 FIFA World Cup matches (up to 25 in 3D), as well as provide the games On Demand the next day. (Great news for those of us who happen to work during the day.) The tournament will also be broadcast in both Spanish and Portuguese in some markets. ESPN will carry most of the FIFA tournament. while ABC is scheduled to carry several matches, the first being England vs. USA on Saturday, June 12 at 1:30 p.m. ET. What about you? Comcast launches 11 new HD channels in Hartford

Comcast adds HD channels in Philadelphia and Delaware

Comcast recently added 50 HD channels to its lineup in North, West and Northwest Philadelphia areas. Now, the cable TV provider has added the same number of hi-def channels to market areas in Philadelphia and New Castle County, Delaware. Comcast expanding their on-demand library

Comcast strikes deal with ESPN 3D

Comcast will broadcast the soon-to-launch 3-dimensional sports channel “EPSN 3D” on June 11 starting with the 2010 FIFA World Cup from South Africa. This is the first cable deal inked with ESPN 3D, following DirecTV’s announcement made with the network back in March. Full Story

Comcast Colorado adds Outdoor Channel HD
