DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket goes online for non-subs

Not a DirecTV subscriber? No matter. This season you’ll be able to purchase the NFL Sunday Ticket purely for online viewing. But, according to USA Today, the service is geared towards would-be DirecTV customers who cannot get satellite service. The article goes on to say that potential customers will have to prove they are unable to get DirecTV in order to purchase the $350 NFL Sunday Ticket online package (for example if they don’t have a clear south-facing view to place the satellite.) Dish launches Epix HD & AMC HD

Dish Network has launched two new channels this week. The first is The 3 from Epix (also referred to as Epix 3) which offers “chop sockey” films from the ‘70s, teen comedies from the ‘80s, and late night “Shock Theater” style movies, as well as genre favs like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Rocky, Top Gun and The Terminator. Unfortunately the third channel from Epix is only offered in standard-definition. Full Story

Upcoming HD channel launches

We can’t get enough HD! This fall there are several high-definition channels scheduled to launch in the U.S., including two channels owned by Sony Pictures Television: Sony Movie Channel (previously referred to as Sony Pictures Movies HD) and Fearnet HD (currently available on-demand). Both HD channels are expected to launch Oct. 1, 2010. Full Story

Palladia’s Fall 2010 concert schedule

MTV has announced their Fall 2010 schedule for the Palladia music channel which presents music, concerts and videos in high-definition. The new live performances feature the return of the annual “Outdoor Music Week,” featuring artists such as Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, Paul McCartney, Jamiroquai, The Strokes, Shakira, Coheed & Cambria and many others. Girls Gone Wild ‘Hottest Girl’ finale on HDNet

The Girls Gone Wild “Hottest Girl in America” finale will premiere on Thursday, July 29 in high-definition on HDNet at 10:00 p.m. PT and 1:00 a.m. ET. The show, which premiered May 13, has narrowed down competitors from around the country and one of them will be given the title. 20 finalists have been chosen from 11 states including California, New Mexico, Florida and Louisana. Europe invades US for soccer matches in HD

Manchester United, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Celtic FC are among elite soccer teams to play in U.S. Stadiums.

Fox Soccer Channel will broadcast several upcoming soccer matches which bring some of the best European teams to U.S. soil. The action (presented in HD) starts this Wednesday, July 21, when Scotland’s Celtic FC battles Sporting Lisbon of Portugal at Fenway Park, the famous home of the Boston Red Sox. Full Story

AT&T fighting for MSG HD, MSG Plus HD

AT&T has re-filed it’s complaint against Madison Square Garden (MSG) and Cablevision over rights to high-definition (HD) feeds from the regional sports networks. AT&T contacted MSG about the feeds to MSG HD and MSG Plus HD after an FCC ruling said “denying access to terrestrial nets is presumptively unfair and deceptive, and treats HD nets as separate services from the standard-definion feed.” Full Story

DirecTV’s 3D channel to broadcast MLB All-Star game

DirecTV will broadcast the first Major League All-Star game in 3D. The game will take place at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, California on Tuesday, July 13. The 3D broadcast will be found on DirecTV’s n3D channel (Ch. 103), the satco’s recently added dedicated 3D channel powered by Panasonic 3D technology. Full Story

FEARnet HD to go linear in October

You may have come across FEARnet searching through your TV provider’s video-on-demand library. The horror/thriller/suspense network also provides content online and through its mobile platform. In October, FEARnet will launch as a linear channel, offering movies from the horror film genre in high-definition on Comcast, FiOS, Cox and other providers. Full Story

Comcast adds Telefutura HD and Univision HD in Washington DC

Comcast has added Telefutura HD and Univision HD to their high-definition channel lineup in Washington D.C. markets. The additions arrive in anticipation of the upcoming FIFA World Cup matches from South Africa. Comcast will broadcast all 64 matches of the tournament (25 in 3D) in spanish language from June 11 through July 11, 2010. Full Story

Comcast announces FIFA 3D coverage

After announcing a deal with ESPN 3D last month to broadcast the 2010 FIFA World Cup in high-definition and 3D, Comcast has released details of its coverage of the event which takes place in South Africa starting June 11. The cable TV provider says they will cover all 64 FIFA World Cup matches (up to 25 in 3D), as well as provide the games On Demand the next day. (Great news for those of us who happen to work during the day.) The tournament will also be broadcast in both Spanish and Portuguese in some markets. ESPN will carry most of the FIFA tournament. while ABC is scheduled to carry several matches, the first being England vs. USA on Saturday, June 12 at 1:30 p.m. ET. What about you? NBA Finals schedule on ABC

The matchup between the Eastern Conference champions Boston Celtics and Western Conference champions Los Angeles Lakers begins Thursday, June 3 at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT on ABC. 24 Season 8 finale airs tonight at 8

Star Wars marathon to simulcast Empire Strikes Back in Times Square

This Saturday, May 22, Spike TV will celebrate 30 years since the release of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes back by airing a three-movie marathon starting at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time with Episode IV A New Hope.
