After years of waiting the Lord of the Rings trilogy on Blu-ray Disc has finally hit the shelves. Peter Jackson’s masterpiece of movie making based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s even more masterful portrayal of a fictional middle earth comes as a box set of nine discs consisting of 3 Blu-rays and 6 DVDs. Unfortunately, these are the theatrical versions of the films, but you may find some consolation in the fact that the set also comes with 3 digital copies for your PC, iPod, phone, or other mobile device. There’s some hype going around about George Lucas planning to release 3D versions of the six Star Wars films in 3D. UK’s Telegraph reports that Lucas has already put a $10 million price tag on the conversion, and the article further cites a company in San Diego who says they can convert an older film into 3D in about 16 weeks. Independent film “Born of Hope” is a 70-minute independent film inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings books. The film pre-dates Lord of the Rings and tells the story of Aragorn’s parents, Arathorn and Gilraen. Dailymotion will broadcast the film in HD starting Dec. 1. Full Story
