CNET names Viera 3D TV ‘Best of Show’

panasonic-viera-hdtv-logo-cropEditors at CNET named the Panasonic VIERA 3D plasma HDTV the “Best of Show” and “Best in Television” at the Consumer Electronics Show this past weekend. The 3D VIERA HDTVs will be available in 50″, 54″, 58″, and 65″ sizes, all four models falling under the TC-VT25 label expected to ship this Spring. Full Story

DirecTV aims for June launch of 3D channel

directv_logo_3d_v2DirecTV along with Panasonic displayed a satellite feed of 3D content at CES 2010. Reps for the satellite provider confirmed plans to launch a 3D channel this coming June (which is when ESPN says they will launch their 3D network…coincidence?). I should reiterate though the company is hopeful of launching in June, as no exact date was mentioned. Panasonic adds Amazon VOD to Blu-ray players

2009 models of Panasonic Blu-ray Disc players with VIERA CAST now have access to Amazon’s video-on-demand (VOD) titles. The Amazon library consists of 1,000 high-definition (HD) titles including popular movies like “Knowing” and “Rush” and TV shows “House” and “Battlestar Galactica.” Full Story

Amazon $100 off Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray player

Amazon has knocked $105 off its Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-ray Disc Player. Once “added to cart” the item drops down to $194.95. That’s 35% off the suggested retail of $299.95 which was set when the product was first made available back in March ‘09. Full Story

Amazon launches 2-day HDTV sale

Amazon announced a 2-day sale on select HDTVs, including Sony Bravia, Panasonic VIERA, Samsung, and Toshiba models. Highlights of the sale include a list of HDTVs for under $499, some of them with free shipping. The sale also includes a selection of HDTVs around $1,000, most of them discounted way under that amount. Full Story

1/2-pound HD camcorders coming from Panasonic

Panasonic has announced two of the world’s lightest HD camcorders. Weighing in at only a half-a-pound, the Panasonic HDC-SD10 and HDC-TM10 both produce 1920×1080 video and come with image enhancing features like O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer), face detection, and AF/AE Tracking (Auto Focus/Auto Exposure Tracking). Full Story

Portable Panasonic Blu-ray player on the market

Panasonic has officially released a portable Blu-ray Disc player to the consumer market. The DMP-BD15 is built with an 8.9-inch WSVGA LCD display and features Viera Cast functionality for connecting to internet sites. This will allow you to view YouTube, Google Picasa, Bloomberg and a weather channel free-of-charge on your HDTV. Full Story

Panasonic drops price on 103-inch plasma

Good news for those of you who have been eyeing the $70k price tag of the Panasonic 103-inch plasma and wishing it would drop a few grand, maybe several grand, or maybe down to the price of a mid-range car — just low enough to get one in your house. The gigantic 1080p display from Panasonic has dropped $20k, to $50,000. That’s about $485 per inch, down from about $680 an inch. Full Story

Panasonic gets 2010 Olympics gig

Panasonic’s DVCPRO HD camcorders and P2 HD storage format media will be used to capture the 2010 Winter Olympics to be held in Vancouver, Canada. The Olympic Broadcasting Services Vancouver (OBSV), who will host the broadcasts, will be using the Panasonic equipment to capture and distribute the Winter Olympics footage. Full Story

FCC releases new rules for the DTV transition
New guidelines released Friday from the FCC will require broadcasters to provide viewers with more information about antennas and converter boxes. More importantly, the rules will allow broadcasters to pull the analog plug starting March 17 if they can claim financial hardship resulting from the continuation of analog until June 12. Panasonic outfits families with HD lifestyle

Panasonic announced yesterday it is looking for more families to participate in its “Living in HD program,” a study of American families living “living in high definition.” The company currently has 30 families involved in the program but will increase that number to 60 in 2009 and eventually 100.
