What Blu-ray box set should be deal of the day?

Amazon is running a poll to determine a winner to be the Blu-ray box-set Deal of the Day. The BD collection with the most votes will be featured during High-Def Week in the Gold Box from June 7-11. Five titles are listed in the poll that are all must-haves for your Blu-ray library, representing the sci-fi, nature/documentary, and action/drama genres. (See below for titles.) Full Story

star-trek-original-series-1-2-3-blu-rayFall ‘09 continues to be the season for Star Trek releases on Blu-ray, with Season 3 of the Original Series now available, as well as a combo pack with all three seasons of  the Original Series. Last summer’s comedy hit The Hangover, which did $275 million in the U.S. is quickly out on Blu-ray for the holidays. And, Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds which sets Brad Pitt in World War II as a Nazi hunter is also out on Blu-ray. Here’s some more highlights… Full Story

Star Trek Online open beta to launch Jan. 12

Blockbuster to host midnight Star Trek release parties

‘Star Trek’ tops Blu-ray releases this week

Star Trek dominates the Blu-ray releases this week, with a variety of first and second generation films and a voyage back to the original TV series.

“Star Trek The Original Series: Season Two” is a 7-disc set which includes all 26 episodes from the original TV series. The episodes were digitally remastered and are presented in 1080p at 4:3 format, with audio options of DTS-HD Master 7.1 and Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono. Full Story

‘Star Trek Original Series Season 2′ and motion pictures headed for Blu-ray Disc

More ‘Star Trek’ titles on the horizon as Paramount announced it will release “Star Trek: The Original Series Season 2″ on a seven-disc Blu-ray set, as well as individual Blu-ray releases of the original motion pictures. Both Blu-ray products will hit stores on Sept. 22. Full Story

Paramount to release Star Trek ‘Next Generation’ films on Blu-ray

Paramount has announced it will release all the “Next Generation” films on Blu-ray Disc this coming September. Finally, we get Next Gen in hi-def. The 5-disc collection will include: “Star Trek VII: Generations,” “Star Trek VIII: First Contact,” “Star Trek IX: Insurrection” and “Star Trek X: Nemesis.”  Full Story

‘Star Trek’ announced for Blu-ray

Paramount has announced the newest “Star Trek” film will be released on Blu-ray Disc Nov. 17. The 3-disc release will be presented in 1080p resolution and Dolby TrueHD (as well as Dolby Digital option). Extras will include over 3 hours of bonus footage, deleted scenes, interactive material, and a digital copy.

A unique feature of the Blu-ray Disc and 2-disc DVD will use “augmented reality technology” which can be defined as a combination of real-world and computer-generated data. Using a webcam you will be able to immerse yourself into a 3D holographic tour of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Full Story

Star Trek D-A-C now on Xbox LIVE

Paramount Digital Entertainment launched the Star Trek D-A-C for Xbox 360 in conjunction with the release of the latest Star Trek film. The game is inspired by the film where players take the helm and engage in multi-player or co-op battles. You can choose between Romulan and Federation Starships, and of course the U.S.S. Enterprise. ‘Star Trek: The Original Series’ coming to Blu-ray

‘Search for Spock’ HD broadcast review

Not available on Blu-ray disc yet, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock was broadcast last night on Universal HD network. The film from 1984 held up surprising well in high-definition, a testimony to the film’s original production. It was shot in Panavision with Metrocolor processing, giving the film punchy color saturation, a characteristic commonly given to plasma television technology. Full Story
