Patriots vs. Giants in 3D closes preseason

Thursday, Sept. 2 will mark the end of preseason NFL games as well as a broadcasting milestone. The New England Patriots vs. the New York Giants will be broadcast in 3DĀ from New Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey. This will be the first time an NFL game is broadcast in 3D, and Verizon customers in local markets will be able to watch the broadcast on channel 834. Of course, a 3D TV and glasses will be required. 3 more channels added to FiOS TV online

Verizon’s FiOS TV online service is adding three more channels from Time Warner Inc., including Adult Swim, Cartoon Network and truTV. Content from these channels will be available online within 24-hours after the shows premiere on television. The channels join Turner’s TNT and TBS which became available to FiOS TV subscribers in June. Full Story

Verizon to broadcast first NFL game in 3D

Verizon has announced they will produce and broadcast the first NFL game in 3D for a limited audience who subscribe to FiOS TV. The pre-season game between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots (who met up in Superbowl XLII) will broadcast in 3D for FiOS customers in parts of New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Verizon premieres WealthTV in 3D

Verizon has added video-on-demand content from WealthTV in 3D throughout its FiOS service network. The channel, called “the premier luxury lifestyle and entertainment network,” has launched its first 3D content with an episode of “Wealth on Wheels Classic.” Full Story

Tri-Nations Rugby in HD on Fox Soccer Plus

Fox Soccer Plus will broadcast the Tri-Nations rugby union tournament between Australia, New Zealand and South Africa on July 10 live and in high-definition (HD). In the first match of nine (to be held in Auckland, NZ) we’ll see top-ranked All-Blacks battle against defending Tri-Nations champion team Springboks. Fox Soccer Plus will carry all nine of the matches of the tournament which will come to an end in September. Full Story

FiOS TV to offer free Starz and Encore preview in HD

From May 13 through May 17 Verizon will offer FiOS TV subscribers free access to Starz and Encore programming in HD, including blockbuster movies such as “Bolt,” “Up,” “Hancock” and “Angels & Demons.” The preview also includes access to video-on-demand content from the two networks. FiOS TV broadcasts a total of 21 Starz and Encore channels, with 10 of those channels available in high-definition (Channels 840-850). Customers who sign up for the 47-channel Movie Package ($15.99) before August 20 will get the first three months free.

Verizon to launch 3D channel by the holidays

Verizon says it will launch a 3D channel by the 2010 holiday season, following in the footsteps of Cablevision, Comcast, DirecTV and others who have also made the commitment. Verizon says they are in discussions with several companies regarding 3D content, and will seek to offer a 3D product that is seamless, rather than creating a “major viewing hassle for consumers.” Full Story

Showtime to debut stylish interactive widget

SHOWTIME NETWORKS SPORTS INTERACTIVEShowtime will launch a new stylish interactive widget for FiOS HD subscribers watching the Strikeforce Challengers sporting event on Friday, Feb. 26. The mixed martial arts broadcast will premiere SHOWTIME Sports Interactive, an EBIF interactive TV app enabling you to vote, view fighter stats and bios, and access a fight calendar. The widget is designed to look like an old baseball card, with retro looking illustrations and all the imperfections of an age (no, your TV isn’t getting old). Showtime says its the first programmer to rollout an EBIF iTV app in high-def, and will include the feature in select HD MPEG-4 broadcasts.

HBO Go launches for Verizon FiOS customers

hbo-go-beta-logoHBO Go (hbogo.com), a new online service providing movies and TV shows at no additional charge to HBO subscribers, launched exclusively for Verizon FiOS TV customers. The streaming MPEG-4 video format (delivered via Flash media) will stream at either 1.2 Mbps or 2.6 Mbps depending on your connection speed. Full Story

Verizon to carry MSNBC in NY metro, but no HD

verizon-fios_rev_330x186Verizon says they will launch MSNBC throughout the New York metropolitan area on Feb. 2, however, they will not be providing the HD simulcast which is available in 1080i. Well, the 480i feed is at least a start. Previously Verizon, along with AT&T, was in a carriage dispute with area cable provider Cablevision, preventing them from broadcasting the channel. Epix HD closer to distribution deals, including Cox and Dish

epix_logo_smVia Reuters Cox Communications may be close to reaching an agreement to carry movie channels Epix and Epix HD, but Cox is not the only TV provider who may get the new network. An article earlier this month from Reuters said Dish was talking to Epix, with a carriage deal expected early in 2010. Full Story

Verizon boasts most TV markets in New Jersey

The company says it is now the largest television provider in the state in terms of locations served, providing service to 348 municipalities. The added areas include New Brunswick (Middlesex County), Hamilton Township (Atlantic County), and Middle Township (Cape May County). Full Story

Verizon FiOS to launch three new World TV channels

Verizon launches FiOS TV in Allentown, PA
