Microsoft updates Xbox D-Pad controller

Just confirmed today via a video posted by Xbox Live’s Larry Hryb (A.K.A. Major Nelson) the newest Xbox 360 controller will have an updated (transforming) D-Pad controller and will come in matt silver color. The new design reflects feedback from Xbox gamers who did not like the D-Pad design. The result is a D-Pad that raises up with a twist into a plus button instead of disc. The controller also features concave analog sticks and gray A,B,X,Y buttons. Sony and Nintendo will have to come up with their own transforming button (if they want to) as this new D-Pad design has been patented. Full Story

Mafia II now shipping for PS3, Xbox and Windows

Published by 2K games, Mafia II is now available for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PCs. The third-person action/shooter game was announced in August 2008, and is a sequel to Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven. Mafia II was developed by 2K Czech, previously known as Illusion Softworks. Full Story

4GB Xbox 360 Arcade now shipping for $199

The new 4GB Xbox 360 “Arcade” is now shipping and features built-in Wi-Fi (802.11n), reduced power consumption, and less noise than previous models. The model is basically the same as the 250GB elite, except with a 4GB Flash Drive. The 4GB model is also Kinect ready (Kinect controller-free accessory will ship Nov. 4, 2010). Full Story

Rockstar Announces Details For 4 Red Dead Redemption DLC Packs

Rockstar Games announced pricing and details today for the four remaining DLC packs for their best-selling western game Red Dead Redemption, one of which brings zombies into the game. These paid content packs, available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, follow the free “Outlaws To The End” DLC released on June 22nd. Leaner Xbox 360 250GB now shipping

The new Xbox 360 from Microsoft is now officially shipping. The leaner Xbox (also being referred to as “Slim” but officially going by “Xbox 360 250GB”) features a 250GB removable hard drive, built-in Wi-Fi (802.11n), reduced power consumption, and less noise than previous models. Medal of Honor Frontline remastered in HD

Medal of Honor FrontlineOriginally released in 2002, Electronic Arts’ Medal of Honor Frontline will be available in a special edition of Medal of Honor (2010) exclusive to the PS3. This will be the first time ‘Frontine’ will be available for Playstation 3, which released as the fourth installment of the Medal of Honor franchise. EA says the exclusive edition has been re-mastered in HD with improved graphics and all the “heart-wrenching battles” of the original. Full Story

Dead Rising 2 Gets Full-Blown Prequel On Xbox Live Arcade With Dead Rising 2: Case Zero

“Dead Rising 2″ is one of the most anticipated games of the summer, so gamers should be happy to hear that they’ll be getting a prequel to the game before it’s released in the Xbox Live Arcade title “Dead Rising 2: Case Zero.”

Case Zero takes place two years after Dead Rising and three years before its sequel. Gamers play as Chuck Greene, the sequel’s protagonist, as he explores the small town of Still Creek, an environment completely different than the Las Vegas-like setting of Dead Rising 2. Greene, an ex-motocross rider, must traverse Still Creek in search of parts for his broken motorbike so that he may escape the town with his daughter. Full Story

Best Buy to take in-store video game trade-ins

Late this summer, gamers will be able to bring their previously owned games into Best Buy stores and trade them immediately for gift cards. Currently, Best Buy only takes in-store trade-ins on iPods, Apple and PC laptops, and mobile phones. They do, however, already take video game trade-ins by mail. Full Story

Red Faction: Armageddon Debuts

Just days after the one year anniversary of the release of the well-received Red Faction: Guerilla, THQ has announced its sequel, Red Faction: Armageddon. Taking place fifty years after the events of Guerilla, the game casts players in the role of Darius Mason, grandson of the previous game’s protagonist, who lives in an underground network of mines after the surface of Mars has been rendered unlivable.
