by Jeff Chabot on March 31, 2008

rcn logoRCN announced plans today to improve its video server technology and expand its high definition (HD) on-demand services throughout Boston, New York, Pennsylvania, and D.C. by June of 2008.

The on-demand library will expand its high definition programs, movies and subscription packages. According to the company’s press release, they will almost double their on-demand offerings.

RCN is a fiber optic service provider which offers high-speed internet, digital television, and phone services. Their on-demand programming was launched in 2003 using software and equipment from SeaChange International.

For this expansion and improvement, the current video servers will be replaced with SeaChange MediaServer MDS 201 models. The equipment will allow better cost performance while meeting the expectations of consumers who use on-demand.
