LG delivers HDTVs that stream Netflix

by Jeff Chabot on June 12, 2009

LG has finally made available two HDTVs with Netflix streaming capabilities. The 77-inch 47LH50 LCD and 50-inch 50PS80 plasma are now shipping in the States. Two other models — a 42-inch LCD (42LH50) and 60-inch plasma (60PS80) — should be shipping sometime this summer.

The streaming Netflix capable HDTVs were first announced at CES ‘09. The TVs provide immediate access to the Netflix library for as low as $8.99 a month. Netflix subscribers also get access to the entire Blu-ray Disc library.

At the same time, LG is offering two Blu-ray home-theater systems that are also ready to stream instantly. The LG LHB953 and LG LHB977 feature Netflix instant streaming as well as Pandora Internet Radio and BD-Live.

Blu-ray, here’s your biggest competitor. Why waste time waiting for a disc in the mail or twiddling your thumbs while a BD loads up when you can stream the titles you want in as little as 30 seconds?
