Blockbuster and Samsung strike OnDemand deal

blockbuster logoBlockbuster and Samsung have made an agreement to deliver Blockbuster OnDemand services to Samsung HDTVs, home theater systems and Blu-ray players. The services will be available this Fall, and the agreement gives Blockbuster top positioning on Samsung’s Blu-ray player interfaces.

Blockbuster will also sell Samsung products with the OnDemand integration in their corporate-owned and franchise stores.

“The Blu-ray players Blockbuster will feature represent the perfect bridge between physical stores and digital delivery by providing streaming digital access to the newest hit movies and high definition Blu-ray product…” said Jim Keyes, Blockbuster Chairman and CEO.

Select Samsung Blu-ray Disc players and home theater systems will have access to the Blockbuster OnDemand with a free firmware upgrade.

For HDTVs, you’ll be able to access the OnDemand content by downloading a Blockbuster OnDemand widget. HDTVs capable of using the widget include Samsung LCD and Plasma HDTVs Series 650 and above, and Samsung LED HDTVs Series 7000 and above.
