Epix HD closer to distribution deals, including Cox and Dish

by Jeff Chabot on December 11, 2009

epix_logo_smVia Reuters Cox Communications may be close to reaching an agreement to carry movie channels Epix and Epix HD, but Cox is not the only TV provider who may get the new network. An article earlier this month from Reuters said Dish was talking to Epix, with a carriage deal expected early in 2010.

Is Epix HD such a hot commodity that we should be anticipating its every move like paparazzi on Paris Hilton (or did I mean Perez Hilton)? Maybe. On its opening weekend it boasted a programming schedule with some pretty hot tickets including Iron Man, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Not only that, the channel is a joint venture of some big league players including Viacom’s Paramount Pictures, Lions Gate Entertainment and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc.

Epix was launched on Oct. 30, 2009 and offered a free preview of the network (on FiOS TV) for the entire weekend. The preview featured a two-hour Madonna concert “Sticky & Sweet: Live from Buenos Aires.”

Epix HD can be found on Verizon’s FiOS 895 and the standard-definition broadcast on 395. The network is currently only available on FiOS TV.
