battlestar-gallactica-season-one-blu-rayA few highlights from the first set of Blu-ray Discs to release Jan. 5, 2010.

Battlestar Galactica: Season One will contain all 13 episodes of The Sci-Fi Channel (now “Syfy”) original TV series. The episodes star Mary McDonnell as President Laura Roslin and Edward James Olmos as Commander William Adama in what Olmos says “is even better than the miniseries.” Blu-ray is 1080p at 1.78:1 aspect ratio with Dolby DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1.

Riding Giants (2004) and Dogtown and Z-Boys (2001) both directed by skateboarder/surfer Stacy Peralta take a look at the history of surfing and skateboarding. The films combine documentary footage with interviews and narration (including Sean Penn who narrates ‘Dogtown’). Both films are in 1080p with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1.

The Green Berets from way back in 1968 features John Wayne (who also co-directed the film) as Colonel Mike Kirby who leads a team into South Vietnam to capture an enemy general. The film is presented in 1080p resolution at 2.40:1 widescreen aspect ratio and Dolby TrueHD audio.

Some other highlights this week include:

  • Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
  • Chuck: The Complete Second Season
  • The Final Destination
