Robin Hood on Blu-ray Disc will officially release September 21, 2010 and has just become available for pre-order. The Ridley Scott version of the tale of Robin Hood stars Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett, and grossed $309 million worldwide ($105 million U.S.).

Redbox has started offering Blu-ray Disc rentals at about half it’s kiosk locations nationwide. The rental fee is cheaper than what we expected — only $1.50 per night — which is .50 less than their video game rental fee.

Lionsgate has acquired North American home distribution rights for Coppola films under his Zoetrope Corporation. The agreement gives Lionsgate rights to distribute classic films from Coppola via DVD, Blu-ray, electronic-sell-through (EST), video-on-demand (VOD) as well as broadcast television in North America. Apocalyse Now and Apocalyse Now Redux are among the films to be distributed by Lionsgate.

Samsung’s new line of multimedia R80 notebooks will hit Best Buy stores on Sunday, March 7. Two of the three R80 models are loaded with nVIDIA GeForce graphics cards (R580 and R780) and the less expensive R480 and R580 models come with internal Blu-ray Disc drives. It’s strange that the more expensive R780 doesn’t come with a BD drive, but those are specs we got. The 16:9 hi-def resolution LED displays vary in size according to the model. (See chart below.) All three models include HDMI ports.
